A Couple Giving Back To ARTZ Philadelphia

September 7, 2017

People who support the work we do at ARTZ Philadelphia come in all shapes and sizes and have lots of different reasons for giving. Maggy C., whose husband Mike was diagnosed with young-onset dementia at the age of 58, gives to create more opportunities for families like hers.

“ARTZ Philadelphia programs allow me to spend quality, enjoyable time with my husband.  There are so many things I have to do now. There are also fewer and fewer people that we can spend time with.  ARTZ Philadelphia gives us a comfortable space just to be together and with others who understand. The donation is to express the gratitude I feel towards you and the programs you conduct.”

There are so many ways to give. For people living with dementia, financial resources and those of time and energy become more and more precious as their illnesses progress. Maggy and Mike have donated every year since they came to their first ARTZ Philadelphia program in 2014. They have also actively participated in the advocacy efforts that are a big part of our mission. Both of them have volunteered their time as mentors for medical students at Thomas Jefferson University in our ARTZ @ Jeff program, sharing their experiences pre- and post-diagnosis as a way to endow the students with greater understanding of what it means to live with dementia every day. Thanks to this remarkable couple, future doctors will start from a place of understanding and empathy when they encounter patients living with Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia and other chronic illnesses.
