Intro


As a Board Member of ARTZ Philadelphia, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the organization and ensuring its continued growth and success. You will work collaboratively with fellow board members, staff, and community partners to uphold the mission of ARTZ Philadelphia and ensure that the organization remains a leader in providing meaningful arts-based programming for people living with dementia and their care partners. The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing governance, fiscal sustainability, and strategic planning, as well as supporting fundraising and community outreach efforts.

We are particularly seeking individuals with expertise in nonprofit governance, fundraising, dementia care, finance, and the arts. We welcome applications from candidates who bring diverse perspectives and backgrounds, especially those with experience working with marginalized communities

  • What are the main duties of board members?

    Board members will:

    • Attend regular board meetings (monthly/quarterly).
    • Participate in committees and working groups.
    • Engage in fundraising efforts, donor relations, and events.
    • Advocate for ARTZ Philadelphia’s mission and expand our network.
  • What kind of time commitment is required?

    Board members are expected to:

    • Attend all board meetings (monthly or quarterly, depending on the schedule) and participate in committee meetings.
    • Commit 6-10 hours per month to board responsibilities, including meetings, events, programs, and committee work.
    • Attend ARTZ Philadelphia events, fundraisers, and public engagements as a representative of the board as needed.
  • Does board service require a financial commitment?

    Board members are expected to commit to doing their part to ensure the financial integrity of ARTZ and to also support its mission, growth, and vision for the future. A minimum pledge of $500 per year is required of board members. Board members yearly pledge is expected to demonstrate that ARTZ Philadelphia is a top three priority in their charitable giving. Board members are also periodically asked to purchase tickets for and attend special fundraising events.

  • What are you looking for in a board member?

    • Passion for the Mission: A deep commitment to improving the quality of life for people living with dementia and their care partners through arts and culture.
    • Leadership and Governance: Prior experience serving on nonprofit boards, governing bodies, or in leadership roles.
    • Fundraising Experience: Demonstrated experience in fundraising, donor engagement, or resource development for nonprofit organizations.
    • Financial Acumen: Knowledge of nonprofit financial management and the ability to contribute to discussions on fiscal sustainability.
    • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Awareness: An understanding of and commitment to advancing DEI principles within the organization and its programs.
    • Professional Expertise: Specific expertise in areas such as law, finance, fundraising, marketing, program evaluation, or dementia care is highly valued.
    • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work well with others in a collaborative and constructive manner.
