Michael Shulman

BOARD MEMBER

Michael joined the ARTZ Philadelphia board in May 2026.

Michael Shulman, Ph.D., is a psychologist and psychoanalyst in process of retiring from private practice. He earned his Clinical Psychology Ph.D. at the University of Michigan and has worked therapeutically with persons between the ages of 3 and 95, consulted within assisted living facilities, and served as Board Member and Board President at the Allen Creek Preschool in Ann Arbor, where he lived and practiced for more than 30 years. He taught psychologists in training as well as psychiatric residents and graduate mental health professionals in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida programs, published multiple papers in his field, and headed up committees and study groups within the American Psychoanalytic Association.

His wife Meryl Berlin, Ph.D., also a psychologist and psychoanalyst, are parents of two adult daughters who live in Michigan and in Brooklyn. He’s most excited and energized to get to work on the Board of ARTZPhilly by the prospect of enriching public understanding of the psychological needs of persons living with dementia – despite their cognitive limitations.
