Music in the Neighborhood Returns!

We are proud to announce that, following a successful first year of Music in the Neighborhood sponsored by Acadia Pharmaceuticals Inc., Acadia will continue their generous support of the program for another year.

As part of our ARTZ in the Neighborhood* project, the monthly Music in the Neighborhood programs use the power of live music to unite communities hit hard by the COVID pandemic, allowing the senior population and care partners who’ve lost their social circles and support to rebuild connections with one another.

“Social and cultural factors influence how people experience life with dementia,” says Lianette Pappaterra, the Community Programs Manager at Esperanza Health Center. “It affects communities of color disproportionately, making access to quality-of-life interventions even more vital.”

We interviewed Lianette in conjunction with the Music in the Neighborhood performances in Summer 2021. In the video linked below, she reflects on this meaningful collaboration and the ability of music to “universally bring joy” across language and culture. “ARTZ in the Neighborhood responds to the different ways that different communities live with dementia, generating programs that are by and for the people of those communities.”
