ARTZ Notes

Join us on October 10th at 1:30 pm (ET) for a special in-person ARTZ Notes program with Matt Davis at the Houston Room at Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. After you register, we will send you information and instructions.

Guitarist Matt Davis will present a workshop entitled “Music Through the Generations.” Participants are invited on an exciting musical journey through diverse songs, personal stories, and the deep connection we may all find through the sharing of music. Matt will perform music that has accompanied the lives of his own family through many generations: Civil War songs, 19th century folk songs, American Songbook standards, contemporary popular music, as well as his original compositions. Participants will experience an entertaining, engaging, fun, joyous, and diverse set of music. Singing along is highly encouraged!

Matt is a prolific guitarist, teacher, and composer based in the Philadelphia region. He has received numerous awards for his work from ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, Chamber Music America and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, among others. Matt has taught music and guitar at a variety of universities for more than 20 years and currently teaches at Temple University and Mercer County Community College in New Jersey. He has performed across the United States and Mexico as well as in Europe and Asia under his own name and with many incredibly talented artists in a variety of styles. He currently resides just outside of Philly with his wife and two young sons, Owen and Benny.

ARTZ Notes invites you to come together with other participants to listen to music, make your own, and engage with each other and the performers. ARTZ Notes offers music and experiences as diverse as our participants. We are exploring different options including facilitating live performances paired with conversations, interactive improvisation and sing-alongs, and conversations and movement around pre-recorded music of all genres.

But we ask that you make your reservation(s) as early as possible. We keep our programs small and intimate in scale so that everyone feels comfortable and at ease. Reservations are first come, first served.

Accessibility, Transit, and Parking

The Houston Room at St. Martin’s is fully ADA accessible. An ADA accessible bathroom is also available on the St. martin’s campus.

Parking is available in a gravel lot at across the street from the church building at Willow Grove & St. Martin’s Lane. There are some handicap spaces out front and participants are also welcome to use the driveway to get dropped off right at the front door. There is also parking available at SEPTA’s St. Martin station (1/2 block away on Willow Grove Ave.), in the science building lot at SCH Academy, and on the streets surrounding St. Martin’s.

St. Martin’s is just a few steps from the St. Martin’s stop of SEPTA’s Chestnut Hill West line (formerly the R8 line). Walk up the hill, toward the overpass, and make a left. The church is ahead on your right at the first intersection.
