About the Event

Join us March 30th at 11:30 AM (EDT) for a virtual Café for Care Partners. After you register, we will send you the Zoom link and instructions.

Let’s (re)connect with the outdoors through the nature-based, ephemeral artwork of Andy Goldsworthy, Patrick Dougherty, and others, as well as interesting patterns found in nature. Then, after a brief demonstration, participants will create their own mandala-inspired artwork using found nature objects. Participants will be invited to share the materials they brought and/or their finished artwork at the end of the session, if desired.

Susan Morgan has a master’s degree in Public Horticulture and a certificate in Horticultural Therapy. Her mission is to cultivate the connection between people and plants for restorative well-being. At eat|breathe|garden (formerly The Horticultural Link), Susan engages participants with hands-on, plant-based activities through her social and therapeutic horticulture programs – in person and virtually. She lives and gardens at 8500 feet in the foothills west of Denver, Colorado.

This event requires you to collect some supplies, please see the supply list below:

– Assorted nature objects, including 3 different objects and at least 3 of the same object – objects may include pine cones, acorns, leaves, pine needles, sticks, seashells, flowers, rocks, and more. Or, if nature objects are not available, you can use small pieces of colored paper, buttons, string, cotton balls/swabs, or other objects found around the house. For example, you can use 3 acorns, 3 pine needles, and 3 leaves – ideally, you want a small pile of various nature objects to choose from and create an interesting art piece. Objects should be small sized and able to fit on the piece of paper.

– Piece of paper, such as printer paper, at least 8.5″ x 11″ size (standard size sheet of paper) or larger, preferably no lines on the paper – or a clean tabletop would also work.

– Pencil

– Optional, cell phone with camera or a camera with a screen (for taking a picture of the completed mandala to share with the group)

– Optional, cup and larger bowl (or something similar for tracing two circles, one is larger than the other – cup and bowl must be able to fit on the piece of paper.) Or, you can draw two circles freehand.

– Optional, ruler or other object that has a straight edge to trace lines
